As far as Bigfoot hoaxes go, it was short-lived one.
Only days after Georgia residents Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer told reporters at a press conference on Friday that they had a dead Bigfoot body, their evidence has been exposed as a rubber ape costume.
The deception was made public by the very company Whitton and Dyer teamed up with to announce their supposed find.
In a statement posted on the Web site of Searching for Bigfoot Inc., "Sasquatch Detective" Steve Kulls said he realized the Bigfoot "corpse" was a fake when the frozen body began to thaw—after the press conference had already taken place.
(See "Bigfoot Discovery Declared a Hoax" [August 18, 2008].)
Ominous Signs
Kulls wrote that he and a colleague plucked a few hairs from the defrosting body and burned them for analysis, but became suspicious when they "melted into a ball uncharacteristic of hair."
More ominous signs emerged as the ice encasing the body began to melt away.
"Within the next hour of thaw, a break appeared up near the feet area," Kulls wrote. "As the team and I began examining this area near the feet, I observed the foot, which looked unnatural, reached in and confirmed it was a rubber foot."
Kulls wrote that he immediately informed Searching for Bigfoot CEO Tom Biscardi about the discovery. Upon confrontation, Whitton and Dyer reportedly admitted to the hoax.
However, many elements of Kulls's account sharply contradict earlier statements made by Biscardi, who stood alongside Whitton and Dyer at the press conference in Palo Alto, California, last Friday.
At the conference, Biscardi said he had flown to Georgia and had actually seen, touched, and prodded the body and was satisfied it "was not a mask sewn on a bear hide."
Furthermore, Biscardi said Friday that Whitton and Dyer had already given him the Bigfoot body and that it was being kept at an undisclosed location.
But according to Kulls, the body was not delivered to Searching for Bigfoot Inc. or examined in detail until after the press conference.
Hoax a Crime?
"It's probably a crime, what they're doing," said Matthew Moneymaker, president of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), an international network of Bigfoot investigators.
BFRO is pushing for Biscardi, Whitton, and Dyer to be prosecuted for fraud.
"Warrants need to be issued immediately before Biscardi leaves the country," according to a statement on the BFRO Web site.
Shortly after the Bigfoot press conference last week, a message appeared on the Searching for Bigfoot Web site offering viewers a chance to see more photographs of the body for U.S. $2.
"Millions of people around the world wanted to see the photos, and Biscardi may have raked in a tidy sum," the BFRO site states.
Agent Dan Ryan of the Palo Alto police department remembers Biscardi as being part of another Bigfoot hoax a few years ago.
He told National Geographic News that the recent scam might be considered a crime—if it is discovered the group profited from it.
"If it's over the Internet, anyone could persecute it, whether Georgia or here or wherever," Ryan said.
You just put out your Big Foot Episode and low and behold, This was released a few days ago! Could it be??? I am not sure I am convinced. But thought I would share none the less.
Alice in Wonderland Syndrome sounds scary. I know I'd rush to the hospital if things seemed bigger than they were. Since it could stem from substance abuse, that may explain the weird change of perception of the size of objects. I wonder if the kids from age 5-10 actually understand the concept of things seeming abnormally bigger than they are, as at that age, I'd think it would be perfectly normal to seem small.
Thank you for the comments. I guess with a first impression (the site being titled Supernatural Existence), it may seem we only focus on the supernatural. But I'm actually interested in a lot of science as well.
I hope you found the article worth taking a look at :)
Nothing whatsoever to do with faulty eyesight. That was teh first thing that was checked when I at last got a doctor who knew what AIWS is! Mine was perfect. In any event the change of size is perceived as well as seen so during a spell I can see the size change with my eyes closed. I know that doesn't make sense but neither does AIWS.
I've heard that they seem really strange, too strange, like one was fascinated about a pen like they had never seen one or something in point pleasant, so the government may not have anything to do with them. Maybe somebody. . .or something wants us to think that...
I rented Unsolved Mysteries Ufo Files (all episodes with UFOs) and on the men in black episode the show sent someone to check the Air Force for any division like the MIB. They denied it. They also went to the Department of Defense withe the same question. The department said "No, but you might want to check the Air Force."
Hear is something i once heard about the MIB and over agentcie figures. Could it be possiable that the government have nothing to do we them, but they make us think that they are government figures to hide their true oragins (course that is saying that they are real, i dont know if they are?????)
Also a lot of storys i have heard is that they drive a black car, they come in two's and one does not talk. I dont really know where they get that from???
Thanks for the comment. Yea, it's great to hear various perspectives. Might learn something new and it's great to stir up interest in investigations as well. Not everything is paranormal, and it makes it easier to find the real mysterious phenomena and sightings.
When I was a kid I would have this. I would be lying in bed and all of a sudden the room felt so small. My bed felt tiny and used to think my body was going to tear apart cause I felt so big! The only way I could get rid of it was to sleep on the cold floor. I still get it to this day but not as often. It's usually when I'm laying down for bed or trying to sleep in a car. My mom just said i was being weird.
i guess it's good to know that other people have this too, perhaps we all go thought it and some point, maybe it could be a spit-second thing to some people. - just a thought
I experienced this alot when I was a kid. I still do have it once in awhile as an adult but not as prevalent as when I was a child. It was and still is very freaky! I thought I was the only one who had this, until I heard someone else close to me who said they experienced this too recently. It only happens to me when I'm in my room though, thank goodness. Great article.
This sounds crazy, one thing i would not want to happen to me, i wonder weather these people who had AIWS have had their eyes tested. It seems that a lot of this is how they see things.
I have heard that some people who suffere from migraines have seen flashing lights in front of them. I guess it could depend on how the brain reads information.
I like this topic- the are we Zombies, just think of what we could achieve with being able to know where objects are that we have lost, the theory about the dowsing rods sounds gr8. I have tried Dowsing rods and had no luck, but I lose a lot of things, so if my minds eye knows where it is then that would be gr8 to tap into to that skill. This could be something we could test out for ourselves somehow????
Hey there Byron. Just a little feedback about nowlive. I have several shows that I listen to that have jumped from talkshoe to nowlive. It seems like a much better easier solution. I say dive right in, it seems to be cool, during a show it's possible to upload images, and video (via youtube links) that the whole room can see. Look forward to the new shows.

It's unfortunate that these people were given so much media attention earlier on.

Hi Dave,

The tale is filled with allusions to Dodgson's friends (and enemies), and to the lessons that British schoolchildren were expected to memorize.
PS I actually visited this site to complain about AIWS being described as 'supernatural'. It isn't. It's a medical condition.
Nothing whatsoever to do with faulty eyesight. That was teh first thing that was checked when I at last got a doctor who knew what AIWS is! Mine was perfect. The government is deffinately hiding something.
I rented Unsolved Mysteries Ufo Files (all episodes with UFOs) and on the men in black episode the show sent someone to check the Air Force for any division like the MIB. They denied it. Great Show Byron, good to hear some non-paranormal theorys to sightings.

this article is not about the the alice in wonderland syndrome, but thought it might be an interesting read for this website.

Byron,
When you switched to the new feed you mentioned you would eventually put the past episodes in there. Do you still have plans to do that?
Thanks,
Bobby
P.S. Glad to see the new ep up, and Happy New Year!
